Farmers Markets are a wonderful opportunity to meet local growers and artisans and to get fresh, flavorful produce. From basil, mint or rosemary herbs to ripe watermelons, yellow squash, turnip greens, honey and of course peaches, Georgia certainly has its “fair share” of fresh, organic goods. At Reynolds Lake Oconee, members are lucky enough to experience seasonal fruits and vegetables straight from the hands of local farmers through its own Neighborhood Farmers Markets.

Held at The Lake Club during the spring and summer months, the Farmers Market provides members with a chance to incorporate a farm-to-table approach in their own kitchens. “All aspects of a garden can be used each meal time,” says Joe Keegan, executive chef for Reynolds Lake Oconee, who works with the culinary team on each of the monthly markets. “There are heirloom tomatoes on hamburgers, cabbage for coleslaw or watermelon to enhance any fruit cup.” The variety of offerings is as abundant as the smiles of shoppers when members, local growers and vendors gather together Saturday afternoons once a month.  Everything from fresh pasta from Cindy Lutini, eggs and produce from Deerwood Farms, wildflowers from Crescent Hill Farms, honey and preserves by Rocky Hill Honey Farm, various meat cuts by Pounders Meat Market and pastries and Asian teas by Winnie’s Cookies and Teas are showcased for members to enjoy. In addition to produce there are even handmade soaps and scrubs, custom embroidered clothing and handmade jewelry by local artisans for purchase as well.

Aside from just buying product, Chef Keegan and the rest of his culinary team are also on-site to share tips, tricks, and even recipes, to ensure everyone comes home confident on how to prepare their fresh flavors. Reliable favorites like chicken salad, fresh mozzarella, salsa, and hummus are prepared by the culinary team on property and sold each month at the markets. As an added treat, members can enjoy fresh made beignets or breakfast burritos before or after shopping or even make a quick stop at the market’s Bloody Mary bar! “What makes our market unique, is the sense of atmosphere we provide,” says Keegan. “We love to connect the local farmers and artists with the membership, but also ensure they get the same level of service that they find in the clubhouse as well.”
