Great Waters

One of the most scenic holes on the front nine, both the design and strategy of this Jack [Great Waters #5] Nicklaus creation is defined by a stream that makes an “S” as it curves its way from tee to green along the left side of the fairway. The water is most imposing as it crosses in front of the green, where a striking rock wall forms a virtual moat that must be negotiated on the approach.
Tip: “You can have some anxious moments on this hole,” says Mark Lammi, Vice President of Golf at Reynolds Lake Oconee. “You have to thread the tee shot between a huge sycamore that hangs over the right and the creek on the left. And you always get a nervous feeling while your approach is in the air – whether the ball will end up wet or dry.” Either way, golfers shouldn’t miss taking the walk over the Nicklaus Bridge in front of the green, where a dedication plaque commemorates the Golden Bear’s golf career.
